Us Australians love a good underdog story, and yesterday we beat Turkey who is arguably the strongest team in Group D.
The on paper stats may communicate that we were dominated, but football is played on grass. Sorry not sorry, Çalhanoğlu…
It’s beautiful seeing a dominant player like Nestory Irankunda donning the green and gold while playing with such a scary attacking threat.
I think I’m going to name my firstborn son Nestory, though Patrick and Connor are also good shouts.
I’m not going to say anything premature, but what I will say is that the future of Australian football is bright as such raw talents with sky high potentials grace the pitch. They have already made us so proud simply by competing. And now, they’ve proved to the world what we believed they could do.
Of course, racing through my mind and the minds of those within this great nation is ‘how far will we go this World Cup?’
If we maintain this underdog intensity, perhaps we can top Group D? Who disagrees with this take, the USA? Who cares about the USA. To them, we are nothing. But when we are doubted, that is when we rise to the challenge and prove everybody wrong; this is simply part of our DNA.
All eyes are on Australia vs USA for if we win, we will guarantee our spot in the 2026 World Cup knockout stage.
